Among an impressive cast, Wonka features Timothée Chalamet as the titular character, Calah Lane as Wonka’s friend Noodle, Paterson Joseph as Slugworth, and Hugh Grant as Lofty the Oompa Loompa. It was directed by Paul King and co-written by King and Simon Farnaby. The film acts as a prequel and companion to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971), presenting a young Wonka who just moved to Europe as he follows his dream of opening a candy shop. He faces many difficulties when following his dream and takes down a Chocolate Cartel in the process.
