Time To Break Out Your Wallet, The Original ‘E. T.’ Animatronic Is Up For Auction
One of the animatronic figures of E.T. is up for auction soon as part of the Icons & Idols: Hollywood event at Julien’s Auctions.
Released in 1982 and still beloved by many today, the Steven Spielberg classic was famed for using animatronic figures rather than being entirely CGI. Now, fans of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial can bid for the chance to own the E.T. Hero No. 1 animatronic figure. Though if they want it, they had better be financially prepared, with an estimated price of $2-3 million.

The figure is the headline item at the auction, which takes place on 17-18 December. The Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions, Martin Nolan, said that they were honoured “to work with the family of Carlo Rambaldi, caretakers of one of the most incredible pop culture figures in the history of Hollywood.” He credited Rambaldi with being a pioneer who “brought unreal characters to life in a way that has never been replicated with modern-day visual effects.”
If owning the E.T. animatronic figure isn’t to your liking (it looks rather odd with most of its skin missing), there will be numerous other items at the auction. Such items include the Holy Staff of Moses from The Ten Commandments, an original Nimbus 2000 broom from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and unrevealed items from films such as Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Titanic, and Alien.
