Tim Burton Refused To Have 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' Go Straight To Streaming
The ghost with the most is back, and he’s here to stay! Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has grossed $264 million at the box office in just two weeks. Given its strong performance, it’s hard to imagine that the film was almost considered for a direct-to-streaming release, as stated by director Tim Burton. However, he was against it and demanded his pictures be seen on the big screen. He was able to get a theatrical release by keeping the budget below $100 million, with cast members agreeing to lower salaries for a cut of the profits, a deal that is surely paying off.
A sequel to Beetlejuice has been floating around for more than a decade, with one planned film, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian, being well-documented. In the meantime, Beetlejuice has had a variety of other projects made, including a cartoon series and a musical play. Tim Burton has returned to give Michael Keaton his iconic role back, alongside co-stars Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. Joining them is Jenna Ortega, who played Wednesday Adams in Tim Burton’s adaptation of the classic comic strip turned sitcom. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice continues to be a success, showing that there’s still life in Burton’s tale of the dead.
