Monster Hunter is enjoying a bevy of attention in the video game industry of late, especially since the release of Monster Hunter: Worlds in 2018. The next major installment came with Rise in 2021, and, slated for release next year, Wilds looks to continue that success.

In the lead-up to the release of the new game, Capcom released a series of new trailers to break down features in the game. One focuses on basic mechanics, another on the gameplay around the great sword, and another introduces a new feature known as Focus Mode.

Basic Mechanics walks players through the standard operating procedures of their characters and tools in the game. Featured in the video are movement speed and capabilities, mount abilities and capabilities, as well as a wrist-mounted crossbow that has a variety of capabilities, like firing ammo of different types at the monsters populating the world, as well as a grappling hook kind of mechanic that allows players to grab just-out-of reach items from the world, or even manipulate the environment.

The Great Sword segment is short but it seems to imply that this weapon will be your main form of weaponry. Players can use it to deal great damage, as well as block incoming attacks. You move slowly and swing slowly with it, but it seems to be the weapon of choice to take on the great beasts you fight.

That same video references the last video, Focus Mode. In Focus Mode, it seems to be a new mechanic that focuses on directionality. While in this mode, players’ attacks will go in the direction that the camera is facing. This allows players to strategically target vulnerable parts of the monsters’ bodies rather than just doing broad, arcing attacks.

There is no specified release date for Monster Hunter Wilds, but it’s listed as sometime in 2025.
