This Is Why Lucasfilm Is Being So Cautious About Their Next 'Star Wars' Movie
When dealing with such a massive property like the Star Wars franchise, the developers need to apply a certain level of care to their craft. Taking the time to examine details and plan the storylines out is important, but overdoing it is possible. An industry insider, Matthew Belloni, has labeled the long, slow, constantly stalled process of a new Lucasfilm movie the result of "a culture of fear and indecision."
The last set of movies to come from the company was the Sequel Trilogy. Throughout the arc, a coherent plan was hard to find with the director changing part of the way during the trilogy. On top of this, a lot of fan service went into the creation of the movies. Classic characters most fans are familiar with were included and parallels to previously told stories could be drawn. Lucasfilm has set its own quality standard with the Disney+ series they produce, so matching that with the movies is a careful task. The task can’t remain drawn out forever, but in the meantime, Lucasfilm is playing the long game.
