These Are The Nominees For The 2023 Oscars

The nominees for the 95th Oscars have been released. Leading the pack with a total of 11 nominations is the sci-fi comedy adventure Everything Everywhere All At Once.

The nomination categories for this film include Best Picture, Best Director, Michelle Yeoh for Best Actress, Ke Huy Quan for Best Supporting Actor, Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu respectively for Best Supporting Actress, Best Writing (Original Screenplay), Best Film Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Music (Original Song), and Best Music (Original Score).

Joining Everything Everywhere All At Once for Best Picture includes All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, The Fabelmans, TÁR, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness, and Women Talking.

This year’s Best Director category notably has only men as nominees; the last two winners were women. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are joined by Martin McDonagh / The Banshees of Inisherin, Steven Spielberg / The Fabelmans, Todd Field / TÁR, and Ruben Östlund / Triangle of Sadness.

Michelle Yeoh is the first Asian actress to be nominated for Best Actress since Merle Oberon in 1936. Oberon couldn’t safely identify as Asian at the time, and it took over 80 years for another Asian woman to be nominated. Joining Yeoh in this category is Cate Blanchett / TÁR, Ana de Armas / Blonde, Andrea Riseborough / To Leslie, and Michelle Williams / The Fabelmans.

This Oscar nomination would be Ke Huy Quan’s first. Also up for Best Supporting Actor are Brendan Gleeson / The Banshees of Inisherin, Brian Tyree Henry / Causeway, Judd Hirsch / The Fabelmans, and Barry Keoghan / The Banshees of Inisherin.

Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis are both up for Best Supporting Actress. Joining them are actresses Angela Bassett / Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Hong Chau / The Whale, and Kerry Condon / The Banshees of Inisherin. Bassett is the first Marvel actor nominated for a role in the franchise.

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are also up for Best Writing for an original screenplay. Joining them in this category are Martin McDonagh / The Banshees of Inisherin, Steven Spielberg and Tony Kushner / The Fabelmans, Todd Field / TÁR, and Ruben Östlund / Triangle of Sadness.
