During Sony’s CES 2025 press conference, fans were excited as Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Studios announced a surprise collaboration on the Horizon Zero Dawn film. Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, took the stage to reveal the news, emphasizing that the project is still in its early stages.

Interestingly, this announcement comes six months after Netflix pulled the plug on its planned Horizon Zero Dawn series. Initially announced in 2022 with Steve Blackman (The Umbrella Academy) attached as showrunner, the series fell into development limbo.

This isn’t the first time PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures have collaborated. Their 2022 film Uncharted brought Nathan Drake’s treasure-hunting adventures to life, starring Tom Holland as the young explorer and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor, Victor “Sully” Sullivan. The movie received mixed reviews but proved that video game adaptation could succeed on the big screen.

The game was launched in 2017 by Guerrilla Games, and Horizon Zero Dawn introduced players to Aloy, a skilled hunter navigating a machine-dominated, post-apocalyptic Earth. The game became an instant classic, praised for its captivating story and lush open world. It pawned the 2020 sequel Horizon Forbidden West and the 2023 spin-off Horizon Call of the Mountain.

With this cinematic adaptation on the horizon, fans are eager to see Aloy’s journey brought to life like never before.
