2023 was a magnificent year for animation cinema. New animation styles popped off left and right, unique concepts were created, and striking characters saw the light after almost disappearing. And we cannot talk about what an awesome year 2023 was for animation without talking about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
This re-telling of everyone’s favorite martial art, crime-fighting reptiles takes us to a more “teenage” take on the brothers. For the first time in a long while we see them act like true teenagers, being awkward and somewhat rebellious. The writers for the movie even adapted their personalities to modern-era teenage-related scenarios. It is truly a masterpiece that opened the possibilities for a whole new franchise around the Turtles.

This franchise may expand sooner than everyone expected. The film’s official release date was announced, and it is coming on October 9, 2026. While it looks like a long way down the road, the future of this franchise looks very promising: the original director, Jeff Rowe, will return for the sequel, and Point Gray Pictures will produce the film.
In the meantime, a new show is coming to Paramount+ this summer. The original voice actors, Micah Abbe, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon, will return to their respective roles for the show. This two-season project will serve as a bridge between the two movies. It is unclear whether the iconic villain Shredder will make an apparition or is reserved for the feature film.
The future of animation looks brighter and greener than ever; it will continue to take over the movie industry and bring spectacular stories to our screens.
