The new killer doll in Hollywood is doing bangers at the box office and is getting her upgrade. Just two weeks after opening in theaters, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster announced a sequel to M3GAN. It’s even got an official title and release date already, M3GAN 2.0, set for January 17, 2025.

Violet McGraw and Allison Williams, who played Cady and her aunt Gemma respectively in the first film and managed to survive, are already on board for the sequel. Williams also moves from executive producer to producer. In the first film. Gemma was a robotics engineer who introduced a lifelike robot doll to Cady, who had been grieving over her parents’ death. In protecting her, M3GAN became murderous and nearly invincible. There is no word on whether Amie Donald will return as the title character, or Jenna Davis as her voice, though considering the film’s ending it’s unknown how much she will need Donald’s body if it’s going to stick. After a $30.4 million domestic opening weekend exceeded expectations, M3GAN has grossed $91.9 million worldwide.

Akela Cooper, who wrote the first film, is back to write this sequel. The film’s director, Gerard Johnstone, hasn’t been secured for the sequel, but it seems early enough in the process that talks have yet to begin. Further producers besides Blum, Wan, and Williams are executive producers Michael Clear and Judson Scott from Atomic Monster, Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek, Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath, and Mark Katchur.
