Almost a decade after the first season of Netflix’s The Punisher was released, Frank Castle is getting his own feature again! This Punisher-focused feature will be released under the Marvel Studios Special Presentation banner on Disney+, joining the ranks of Werewolf by Night (2022) and The Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special (2022). Jon Bernthal will return as the titular character and help write the special alongside director Reinaldo Marcus Green. It is looking at a 2026 release.

In a comment to Entertainment Weekly, the T.V. Special's producer Brad Winderbaum gave a brief description of what to expect, “It’s like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story.” Winderbaum continued, praising Bernthal’s creative skills, "Bernthal is a generational actor. He's incredible what he brings to all the roles he plays, but particularly Frank Castle. And he's a great writer. He knows the character inside and out.”

Plot specificities of the project have yet to be released.  Castle’s reintroduction to the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again saw a confrontation between himself and Matt Murdock and a re-establishment of his motivation to take out criminals permanently. The MCU version of Frank Castle has previously appeared in Netflix’s Daredevil and The Punisher; to catch up on the character’s lore, both are available to stream on Disney+.
