Disney’s D23 was this past weekend and it was full of information on upcoming projects from Star Wars, and Marvel, to new Pixar movies.

One of the major reveals was the first teaser for Toy Story 5 along with some story details. The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the new movie, but it does feature Buzz, Woody, and Jessie. No voices, nothing but smiles and waves. Plot details come from the stage presentation that showed off the first trailer.

According to what was reported from D23, Toy Story 5 will feature Bonnie’s toys, from the old group of Andy’s toys of Woody, Jessie, Buzz, and the rest of the gang of toys in Bonnie’s room, find themselves having to compete with the new thing consuming Bonnie’s attention: screens. This is accompanied by the toys peering over Bonnie’s bed and looking at Bonnie sitting under her sheets staring at a tablet. Every parent and teacher in the world knows exactly what the toys are dealing with.

Another image was released showing a bunch of Buzz Lightyears, but they all seem to be ominously raising their eyebrows and there’s a menacingly glowing red circle in the middle of their suit. Speculation has it that the toys will have to contend with an army of 50 or more angry Buzz Lightyears. That is not confirmed, however, but the image seems to corroborate that.

Given the images we’ve seen, it’s important to note that the movie seems to take place before Toy Story 4 since Woody is back with the toys despite staying behind at the end of the fourth movie.

While Tom Hanks has not been confirmed to be returning, Tim Allen has agreed to reprise his role as Buzz. Andrew Stanton is tasked with directing it, and the film will be released in the summer of 2026.
