One of the more anticipated shows coming up was an Arkham Asylum series for the streaming service HBO Max. Since the release of the first Arkham Asylum game in 2009, fans of the Caped Crusader can’t get enough of those haunted halls filled with more costumed crazies than the Las Vegas Raiders “Black Hole.” As such, excitement was high for the series on Max.

However, it’s not meant to be.

For reasons currently unknown, the Arkham series has been cancelled. Originally announced to be set in the same universe as The Batman, it was retooled to join the DC universe created by James Gunn’s Superman film. However, it fell through, and we’re not going to see what could have been.

However, a source for the magazine Variety did say, “It is still possible, though, that a new project set within the infamous Gotham City asylum could be developed in the future.”

What that means going forward is anyone’s guess. It’s still nice to know that the door hasn’t been closed to the asylum. There are countless stories to be told from within those walls. We’re just not going to be getting the ones originally planned. Still, for fans of the games, there is the upcoming Arkham Shadow game to be excited about.
