'The Old Republic' Has Been Recognized By Disney On The Official 'Star Wars' Timeline
A new page on the Star Wars official website details the eras of the galaxy far, far away. At first, the new canon only recognised three eras. Age of Republic, Age of Rebellion, and Age of Resistance. As new media has been released that explores the timeline’s vast range, new eras were added or older ones split to create six eras on that timeline.
With the new films announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, more eras were added to that timeline. New Jedi Order, to recognise the film about Rey rebuilding the lost Order. Dawn of the Jedi, to recognise James Mangold’s film exploring the early beginnings of the Order. And The Old Republic. A curious addition back then, as nothing was announced to slot into that era. A description for that era has been added to the timeline of eras page of the Star Wars official website, and it reads exactly as you would imagine.

“The Republic is founded among the worlds of the Galactic Core, and the Jedi Order emerges to protect it. A schism within the Jedi leads to the creation of the Sith in this epic era.”
The information is nothing new, as canon media has referenced these events. But calling it an epic era shows that the Legends version of the era is recognised. The era that gave us two Knights of the Old Republic video games and The Old Republic massively multiplayer online RPG. The era saw a great war between the Jedi and the Sith, which ended with the Sith all but extinct.
Other eras of this timeline have the logos of the video games, TV series, and films that fit within them shown, along with the descriptions of the eras. For The Old Republic era, there is yet to be any on-screen media set within it. Maybe within a few years, that will change. After all, we’ve had Tales of the Jedi. Why not a Sith equivalent set during the era they were most prominent?
