To all those who rejoiced that there would be 10 months between Marvel Cinematic Universe films by the end of its 2023 releases, your celebration is short-lived. Disney has shifted The Marvels out of its July 28 release date to a very familiar weekend.

The Captain Marvel sequel, starring Brie Larson and uniting her with Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, Ms. Marvel, to star together. Having bounced around release dates several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including November 11, 2022 (which eventually went to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and the very date this move was announced (February 17, 2023, swapping with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), the film now moves to this year’s equivalent November weekend, November 10, 2023. This now sets it about 6 months between Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, which opens in May of this year and next May’s release of Captain America: New World Order.

The news of the delay came via the release of a new poster featuring all three starring characters, which Larson was the first to share. It was subsequently reported that the new Haunted Mansion movie starring Rosario Dawson, LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto, was moved up two weeks to the July 28 slot vacated by The Marvels. The move comes as Disney CEO Bob Iger stated Marvel will slow down and spread out its Disney+ TV output after releasing a massive 18 projects across TV and theatrical in 2021 and 2022. While it’s not a TV project nor does it affect the true pacing of the movie releases, it’s still in the same vein.
