A date for The Mandalorian and Grogu movie has been set. Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, spoke on their quarter one call about the upcoming projects for the next three years. Din Djarin and his adopted son are due to hit theatres on May 22nd, 2026….or December 18th, 2026. Disney are hedging their bets.

The film is due to go into production this year, although no dates have been confirmed. Jon Favreau, from the original series, has signed on as showrunner, so don’t expect a massive stylistic departure. Favreau has worked on some of Marvel’s biggest movies, including Avengers: Endgame and Iron Man. He is also producing Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which is expected to be released at the end of this year.

An excited Pedro Pascal posted some of Ryan Church’s concept art of The Mandalorian and Grogu on his Instagram story at the beginning of January, which suggested production is moving along.

Disney has still been unclear about the fate of The Mandalorian season 4, and whether the new movie is a replacement or an addition. There are mixed sources, and Jon Favreau did say that the scripts were written before the movie announcement came out. There are differing opinions as to whether we will see season 4 before the movie, afterwards, or not at all. But it’s far more likely that Disney are waiting to see the box office receipts from The Mandalorian and Grogu before making a decision.

Bob Iger brought up a few other future Star Wars projects that are in development: he confirmed that James Mangold will be starting work on an untitled Star Wars project once he finishes A Complete Unknown, and mentioned David Filoni’s first big budget Star Wars movie, set in the New Republic Era.
