DreamWorks released a trailer for the newest animated project The Wild Robot, and it is truly mesmerizing. This new movie follows the story of ROZZUM unit 7134, or “Roz” for short, a robot that shipwrecked on an island without any civilization or humans; now Roz will learn to understand, adapt, and appreciate his surroundings, connect with nature and bond with the animals that live there.

The trailer showcases the beautiful animation behind the project, all the vibrant colors and fluid movements for every object on the scene: the movement of Roz, the animals that surround him, and the trees and plants that create the gorgeous scenery of the forest.

The central idea for the movie, as well as Roz’s design, evokes several animated robots from the past 25 years. Roz’s eyes resemble those of Wall-E; his friendly personality and facial features evoke Baymax, from Big Hero 6; and the soulful behavior and interest in nature is a beautiful reference to The Iron Giant. The premise for a robot that connects with nature and its soul is something truly fascinating and continues to intrigue the closer society grows to live with actual robots around.

According to the trailer, many renowned actors will give voice to different characters in the movie. However, during the trailer, the only voice is actually a voiceover saying: “Sometimes, to survive, you must become more than you were programmed to be.”

Lupita Nyong’o will give voice to Roz; she will be joined by Mark Hamill, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, and Catherine O’Hara. The movie is written and directed by Chris Sanders, writer and director of DreamWorks’s How to Train Your Dragon and The Croods, as well as Disney’s Lilo & Stitch.
