The First Trailer For ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Premieres At New York Comic-Con
It’s finally here. Nintendo and Illumination have released the first teaser for the long-awaited animated Super Mario Bros. movie, officially titled The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It was the main feature of a dedicated Nintendo Direct which featured Shigeru Miyamoto, Illumination founder Chris Meledandri giving production updates, and Chris Pratt and Jack Black, hyping up their work. It was shown to New York Comic-Con attendees on the Empire Stage.
The teaser sees Bowser’s floating molten island approach a penguin kingdom, his Koopa army, and Kamek lined up to herald his arrival. And his walk is incredibly menacing. All the penguins have in their arsenal is snowballs. Kamek whisks them away with magic and Bowser breathes his fire at the castle, getting his hands on a Super Star. Mario exits a pipe, landing in the Mushroom Kingdom, and finally, Luigi is chased by a pack of Dry Bones.
Everyone looks just as they should, especially after what the poster had shown. Nintendo wasn’t going to let them deviate too far from the modern style when there wouldn’t be any reason to. It’s beautiful, and the acting seems pretty all right. Pratt’s take on the character might take some getting used to, but Black’s Bowser? He has it down pat. The Super Mario Bros. Movie also stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike, with Charles Martinet making cameos. It will be released in theaters on April 7, 2023.
