The First Trailer For The Movie 'Strange Way Of Life' Starring Pedro Pascal And Ethan Hawke Was Just Released
The first trailer for Pedro Almodóvar’s queer Western film Strange Way of Life was just released on Wednesday.
The 30-minute short film stars Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke, and marks Almodóvar’s second English language film, after his 2020 short The Human Voice. The story follows cowboy Silva (Pascal) and Sheriff Jake (Hawke) as they meet for the first time in 25 years. The pair confronts their complicated romantic history against the backdrop of a classic Western film.

The trailer features Pascal and Hawke as gunslinging, horseback-riding cowboys. It flashes between clips of the pair fighting outsiders and each other, and softer, more intimate moments of Silva caring for an injured Jake. The film is scored by Almodóvar’s long-time collaborator Alberto Iglesias, whose compositions add a frantic edge to the trailer.
The story is reminiscent of the 2005 drama Brokeback Mountain. Interestingly, Almodóvar was slated to direct the film, but gave up the opportunity when he doubted he would be offered the creative freedom to follow through on his vision. Strange Way of Life is a second chance of sorts, finally giving audiences a glimpse into Almodóvar’s original view of the film.
Strange Way of Life is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this May.
