The official trailer for Marvel Studio’s Secret Invasion debuted during ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball game. The trailer opens ominously on a gated round in dense woods with a shadowy figure walking towards it.

The camera reveals Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury figuratively signalling his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Fury appears to know more about the impending invasion of Earth from a rogue group of Skrulls.

Marvel Studio’s Secret Invasion sees not only the return of Samuel L. Jackson as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s one-eyed former S.H.I.E.L.D leader but fan-favorite Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill alongside Ben Mendelsohn, Martin Freeman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Coleman, Charlayne Woodard, and Marvel Cinematic Universe newcomer Emilia Clarke. Don Cheadle will return as James Rhodes, War Machine. According to sources at Variety, Kingsley Ben-Adir is rumored as the villain.

Cobie Smulders mentioned at the Marvel Studios Comic-Con in July last year how “This is a darker show” and “It’s going to be an exciting thriller. You’re never going to know who people are - are they a Skrull, or are they human?”

The series is directed by Ali Selim, who is also an executive producer alongside Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Samuel L. Jackson, Kyle Bradstreet, and Brian Tucker. The head writer is Kyle Bradstreet.

Secret Invasion debuts on Disney+ on June 21, 2023.
