A release window of 2025 has officially been named for season two of The Last of Us.  Along with this announcement, Max released a sneak peek of what’s to come! The second season will adapt part of the game The Last of Us Part II, which is set five years after the original story. There are only seven episodes slated for this season at the moment, but there’s a lot more content to develop from the second game, so the developers are looking at a multiple-season adaptation.

The sneak peek may be brief, but it shows a fair bit.  A first look at Catherine O'Hara’s unnamed character is shown asking questions to Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller in a strictly calm, almost clinical fashion.  Pascal is shown in this interview and some of the action; he closes the montage with a single tear and a firm statement, “I saved her.” Ellie, portrayed by Bella Ramsey, appears in the montage from the start, ranging from observant in situations to fierce to honestly terrified of the Infected she’s faced with.

A first look at Isabela Merced’s Dina, a potential love interest for Ellie, is featured in the montage. A brief moment of Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby getting stuck under a large fence-like object flashes by as well; Abby is a character from the video game whose father was the surgeon Joel killed to save Ellie, so her character origins for the series may be similar. From artistic parallels to the video game to top-notch, emotional portrayals and excellent SFX, this season is shaping up to be great.

To get a refresher on where things left off, season one of The Last of Us is available to stream on Max. The series is based on the games by the same name; if you want to delve into the action and play it for yourself, Part I is available for PC, PlayStation 3, and PS5, and Part II is available for PS4 and PS5, with a future possibility for a PC release as well.
