The First Reactions To 'Star Wars: Andor' Are In, Here's What They Say

Oh, apparently, reactions to the first episodes of Andor are out, and they are actually really interesting! The new Star Wars series, which was delayed to September, was just seen by members of the press, and one reaction from a ResetEra user was published on the forum. This person, who the portal Bespin Bulletin believes to be an actual journalist that had early access to several other Disney+ shows, has already seen Andor and its 3-episode premiere.

According to this person, whose username is Ramala, Andor is much more grounded in reality and doesn’t provide much fan service like other Star Wars shows, and movies did in recent years. Ramala says, “It is totally unconcerned with giving you fan service moments and instead wants to delve into what it’s like for the bit players in this universe to wake up every morning and go about their day. This is not space opera. It’s more space drama. It’s slow, deliberate, complex (for Star Wars fans) and asks the viewer to do some work.” Ramala also says that Stellan Skarsgård’s Luthen Rael and Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma will take center stage for these episodes, marginalizing - temporarily - Cassian Andor:

“Of the first 4, Luthen and Mon Mothma are def the real MVPs, Andor is probably the least interesting character (…)”.

It is possible to understand from this and other pieces of news that have already come out that Tony Gilroy will likely take a much more humble approach to Andor, grounding it in reality. Not only by doing live sets in actual locations, but choosing this more dramatic approach to the show, he takes Star Wars to a different sphere than it was before. Although there are already concerns deep within the fanbase that Andor will be “too political” (even though Star Wars, since its creation, has been political and had a critical agenda), this is the way it will probably take. No great space battles or mythical forces are in play, but the very birth of the rebellion and the players involved.
