The Director Of 'Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania' Peyton Reed Says It Is An 'Avengers' Level Movie
Anticipation for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is building as the film’s February 17, 2023, release date approaches. The film’s director, Peyton Reed, spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how the first two films were considered “palate cleansers,” each released after an Avengers film. After Avengers: Age of Ultron, the first Ant-Man film premiered in theatres, and the second film followed Avengers: Infinity War.
Peyton Reed told Entertainment Weekly, “People felt like, Oh, these are fun little palate cleansers after a gigantic Avengers movie. For this third one, I said, ‘I don’t want to be the palate cleanser anymore. I want to be the big Avengers movie.’
And Reed explained how Jonathan Majors’ portrayal of Kang the Conqueror sets the film up for an Avengers’ level of success, describing how Kang is “the most powerful force in the Multiverse.”
Reed continued, “In the comics, Kang has dominion over time; he’s a time traveler. His situation is a little bit different in this movie, which I won’t spoil for you, but he’s someone who, [while] we live very linear lives, from childhood to death, Kang doesn’t exist that way. It struck me as interesting to take the tiniest Avengers – in some people’s minds, maybe the least powerful Avengers – and put them up against the most powerful force in the multiverse.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens on February 17, 2023.
