‘The Book Of Boba Fett’ And ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Are Separate Shows After Some Confusion Came From Fans

This season of The Mandalorian has been a whirlwind of reveals and appearances from many people across the Star Wars universe, but for those who stuck around past the end credits of the last episode, they really beat themselves at their own game with the reveal of a whole new show. While fans were excited, this left a lot of questions since really all we got was a short clip and a reveal of the title. Finally one question has been answered: The Book of Boba Fett is a completely different series than The Mandalorian season 3.

It's understandable to see where the confusion came from, The Mandalorian season 2 really wrapped up a large amount of ends in one fell swoop, leaving us to wonder where it leaves our hero. With the quest he spent 2 seasons pursuing completed, the door was wide open for him. But that was before the reveal that long-time fan favorite character, Boba Fett, would not only return farther than the few appearances he made during the series, but he would helm his own series. With it being slated for December 2021, the same similar window The Mandalorian season 3 was given, it lead many to believe that The Book of Boba Fett really was The Mandalorian season 3. This news was finally put to rest when Lucasfilm concept designer, Paul Bateman, put out a couple of tweets to clarify the issue for fans aching for some kind of clarity for the future.

Bateman said, in a personal tweet that they are "two different shows" and that fans would be "getting them both." He also went on the clarify, in a separate tweet, that they both have completely different production cycles, meaning one won't have to finish before the other is started. It's likely they'll both be worked on in parallel. However, the tweets didn't last long before the first was deleted and he posted a new one to clarify that he "doesn't officially represent Lucasfilm." It's understandable the company wanted any information leaving to be from official channels and try to reign in the amount of information leaked willingly by staff. he went on to say that, as he understands it, The Mandalorian season 3 and The Book of Boba Fett will be "potentially releasing around the same date."

While many people are excited to have double the dose of Star Wars next holiday season, it begs the question about the other rumors floating around. Where does this leave The Mandalorian? This show has been the crowning achievement of, not only Disney's Star Wars universe, but of Disney+ since it launched. It's safe to say the show is going on and we will see our heroes again, but many rumors say that its initial December 2021 release window alluded to at the shareholders meeting might actually be a little ambitious. Many reports are saying it's being pushed back to early 2022, meaning we'd have to go a whole year before seeing The Mandalorian put on the armor again.

Disney has announced a fair share of shows to be hitting Disney plus following the success of The Mandalorian. We won't be short on Star Wars content in the coming years, so perhaps it'll give them more time to put the finishing touches on future instalments of The Mandalorian so it can continue to be the breakout success it has been for the Disney's streaming service.
