Summer Game Fest Is Here, And Here Are The Highlights From Day One
It’s summertime in the northern hemisphere, and that means the summer video game showcases are in full swing. Today marked the start of Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, and it kicked off with a live stream of announcements and game trailers, with two more days to follow of demonstrations and showcases.
There’s a lot to cover, so this will mostly cover the major announcements. Stay tuned here for coverage of all the news to come out of Summer Game Fest.
One of the first games to be announced and shown was rumored to be coming last month. LEGO Group has broadened its reach with a new video game based in the Horizon: Zero Dawn universe. Titled LEGO: Horizon Adventures, players control Aloy as she navigates the Horizon universe, beautifully rendered in layers and layers of LEGO bricks. There seems to be a co-op element to the game as well, revealed through a funny fourth-wall segment of the trailer.

Further on, it was revealed there is a Harry Potter Quidditch game coming to major platforms. Called Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, the trailer hints at what we can likely see in the game. Mostly done through cinematics, it showed off several stadiums, even the suggestion that you can make it to the Quidditch World Cup, as well as several familiar faces from the Harry Potter universe.
Rumored to have been coming as soon as yesterday, what is likely to be the start-up trailer for the game, Cid Meier’s Civilization 7 was revealed through an epic and Game of Thrones-style trailer detailing the epic tale of humanity’s enduring rise through the ages. It was followed by a little announcement by the man himself, Cid Meier, that the game would launch day and date in 2025, just no indication of when that day and date would be.
Further announcements included a look at DragonBall: Sparking! Zero, coming this October 11, featuring more high-speed action-packed gameplay similar to DragonBall Z: Kakarot. Street Fighter 6 revealed its year two character trailer featuring a crossover with Fatal Fury characters like Terry and Mai, as well as classic characters like M. Bison and Elena.
One of the biggest announcements was the reveal of Blumhouse joining the video game publishing business. After a rough last 18 months in the games industry, indie studios are finding new light and support, apparently from unexpected places. Blumhouse announced that they would be supporting and publishing several horror games, two of note being Crisol Theater of Idols, a game that looks inspired by BioShock, and Grave Seasons, a seemingly horror twist on the boom in cozy games like Stardew Valley.
All those and more made up just the first day of the show. Xbox will have its showcase on Saturday, and Ubisoft will have a connect on June 10.
