The release of new games, especially sequels, can cause feelings of excitement and anticipation for the most well-received titles. Back in 2018, the first Subnautica game allowed its players to explore the aquatic planet 4546B, uncover “secrets” of advanced alien species called Architects, and encounter Leviathans, sometimes attacking without warning. According to GameRant, Subnautica had a spin-off, Subnautica: Below Zero, released a year later and would result in becoming a standalone game when its original intention was for Below Zero to serve as an expansion of Subnautica lore. Luckily, the Subnautica lore will be expanded upon with the upcoming Subnautica 2 with a new planet and a 4-player co-op mode.

Fans of Subnautica and other 4-player co-op games watched as Krafton and Unknown Worlds Entertainment unveiled the first teaser trailer of the game set for early access release in 2025 during the October 17 Xbox Partner Preview event. According to GameRant, the sequel’s game trailer showed its audience the unnamed character falling to the depths of the ocean, giving this character and its player a chance to explore the watery new world, similarly to how players explore the world of Minecraft. Further drawing inspiration from Minecraft, the unnamed character will have an arsenal of new tools their players will utilize when the early access period begins in 2025.

Despite the precise date of the game release not being known, Xbox Game Pass players will be thrilled to know that they will be able to play the full game without paying any additional costs. Those who might encounter bugs have assurance from the development team that encourages users to “shape the future of Subnautica 2 with player feedback during the game’s early access period.” Time will tell how this feedback will continue to grow and shape this underwater world.
