This week, Studio Ghibli- the studio and producer behind beloved animated features such as Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbour Totoro, and the Oscar-winning Spirited Away- took to their official Twitter to tease their latest project. It appears certain that the much-loved Japanese company will be collaborating with LucasFilm, the veteran production company behind the Star Wars franchise.

On Thursday, November 10th, Ghibli posted their first of two mysterious offerings teasing the new project- a 15-second trailer. With no caption or further context, the trailer features only the LucasFilm Ltd logo, followed by the instantly recognisable blue Studio Ghibli title card- then fades to black.

On Friday, November 11th, Studio Ghibli posted a photo of a small grogu statue, with Hayao Miyazaki- the founder of the studio and its most prominent director- instantly recognisable, even in the background. This tweet seems to confirm the nature of their studio with LucasFilm- that the next Ghibli project will indeed be Star Wars related.

Fans will be left to speculate if the tweets hint toward a Ghibli-produced entry for the second season of Star Wars: Visions. The second season of the anime anthology series, previously featuring entries from fellow animation titans such as Production I.G. (FLCL, BLOOD+) and Studio TRIGGER (Promare, Cyberpunk Edgerunners), is set to release in 2023.
