'Stranger Things' Production Is Sidelined As Duffer Brothers Show Solidarity With Writers
The Duffer Brothers of Matt and Ross, co-creators and co-showrunners of Stranger Things, announced that production on the fifth and final season “is not possible during this strike.” The strike in question is the Writers Guild of America wanting fairer pay for the writers behind the shows and movies that large American studios produce.
In their full statement posted on Twitter, the brothers state that they are “excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew.” But while the strike is ongoing, such cannot happen as “writing does not stop when filming begins.” The two end the statement by saying, “we hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work.”

The strike has already seen an effect from when it first started on May 2, with late-night talk shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Saturday Night Live put on hold until further notice. another talk show host ,Seth Meyers, has shown solidarity with the strike by saying “those people who have a job, they are entitled to fair compensation. They are entitled to make a living.”
Most of the industry will be working around these strikes, with Amazon pushing ahead on the second season of The Rings of Power despite two of the showrunners being unable to continue writing duties as per the rules of the strike by the WGA. No matter whether a studio is showing solidarity or pushing ahead, one would hope they are all hoping for a fair resolution to end the strikes.
