Streaming services such as Disney plus have been on the ascendant since COVID-19 broke out, causing movie studios to release new films on the streaming services. In contrast, they would have gone to theaters traditionally. However, the unanticipated success of the movie on streaming has caused studios to keep sending their content to streaming services. Disney follows this trend by releasing its latest animated film to its burgeoning streaming service roster. Strange World is very similar to its predecessor Encanto in that its story follows a musical journey of discovery; however, it has yet to find a core audience during its short theatrical run since Thanksgiving.

Strange World is a 2022 film directed by Don Hall, who boasts credits like Big Hero 6, Raya and The Last Dragon, and Tangled. The film tells the story of the Clades, a legendary family caught exploring truly unknown regions of the universe with a host of strange characters. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Searcher Clade, an explorer who accepts a mission and leads his family/team out of their element. Veteran actors such as Dennis Quaid and Lucy Liu round out the cast of the Clade family to create an unforgettable adventure. Disney Plus subscribers can witness the Clade family adventure firsthand on December 23, when the film drops online.
