Stephen Spielberg Celebrates 50 Years Of Working With John Williams
Five decades may not sound like much. Convert it to its number in years, then it becomes a large number. Equate 50 years to the Spielberg-Williams partnership and there is a sense of wonderment for the longevity of their partnership, then comes the realization their collaborations are synergies of sight and sound. Steven Spielberg said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
"It (Williams' music) is so organic to the picture and it so belongs in all those right places that when a movie is working well the music is not going to stand out in front of the film nor is the film going to smother the music. It is an absolute brotherhood between music and imagery."

That "brotherhood" between Williams and Spielberg has produced not just iconic moments but icons of not just the entertainment industry but the entirety of American culture. The intro that portended the presence of a 20-footer has been "sung" by countless individuals pretending to sneak up on someone or something or the five-note song humans and otherworldly beings used to communicate on Devil's Tower. Conversely, mentioning a film's title and the mind's eyes and ears could immediately correlate E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Jurassic Park to their respective themes.
On 12 January 2023 at 6:00 PM (Pacific), American Cinematheque will host their tribute "Spielberg/Williams - 50 Years of Music and Movies" at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills.
It's easy to believe Steven Spielberg and John Williams have worked together since 1972. The simple fact is this: they work well together.
