Actor and comedian Stephen Colbert (The Late Show, The Colbert Report) celebrated his love for his favorite classic cartoons such as Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends by showing up unexpectedly at a WGA Animation Guild celebration in New York City this past Tuesday and supporting them by serving the marchers free ice cream to keep them going through the rain outside. Neveah Halprin (aka DJ Subway) was also on hand to provide weather-related tunes to the crowd.

Stephen Colbert told Deadline that he was adamant in support of the marchers and believes that their goals are reasonable:

"I'm here to support the WGA and SAG and the Animation Guild... We have to win"

Marchers were encouraged by the turnout and energy shown by the participants despite the raindrops falling on their heads:

“It’s, what, Week 13 of the strike, and people are out here in a thunderstorm,” said Greg Iwinski, a WGA East council member and writer for talk shows including The Late Show.

David Steven Cohen, originally a live-action programming writer, called the event and the strike, “unfortunate fun.” He went on to say:

“I can’t think of better people to walk around in the rain [with] and celebrate the work we do while stating our case to the world,” said Cohen, a head writer for Courage in 1999-2002.
