'Starfield' To Launch September 6, Bethesda Doing Developer Direct This Summer
2023 promises to be a big year for gaming. The Dead Space remake has already launched. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has just released. Star Wars: Jedi Survivor arrives in April, followed by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in May. Street Fighter 6, Diablo 4, and Final Fantasy XVI all come to market in June.
But one of the biggest games of the year just got its launch date after a delay. Announced yesterday, Bethesda has revealed that Starfield will launch on September 6th. Check out the launch announcement video:

Starfield was first announced by Bethesda at E3 back in 2018. It’s Bethesda’s first new IP in nearly 25 years. The game is being compared to No Man’s Sky for the ability to travel between worlds and land anywhere on the planet, but there will not be seamless manual landing as seen in NMS, according to Bethesda EP Todd Howard. It may lack some of that aesthetic, but really when it comes down to it, it’s just launching and landing; nothing else really happens during that sequence in NMS. Howard has also stated that there will be over 1,000 planets to visit, land on, and explore, making it Bethesda’s largest game to date.
It certainly explains why Bethesda has delayed the game several times. With the new release date in September, Bethesda also announced a Starfield Direct for June 11th, right after Xbox’s Summer Showcase. This news follows in the wake of Microsoft’s announcement that Xbox will not be at E3 this year, delivering another major blow to the once premier video games conference of the year.
