'Star Wars: Rebels' Actor Admits He'd Also Love To Make The Jump To Live-Action
Spoilers for 'Book of Boba Fett' Chapter 6
Dave Filoni has created a long list of memorable characters in both The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, with the roster of characters that have made the jump from animation to live-action growing by one with Chapter 6 of The Book of Boba Fett.
In some cases, the actors or voice-artists who helped bring these characters to life in animated form are also involved in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Katee Sackhoff lent both her appearance and her voice to the animated Bo-Katan, the leader of the Night Owls in Clone Wars. Sackhoff reprised her role as the character in Season 2 of The Mandalorian. Corey Burton provided the snarling voice of Cad Bane first in The Clone Wars, then in the The Bad Batch, and now also in The Book of Boba Fett.

But the bounty hunter with the wide-brimmed hat and the glowing red eyes surely won’t be the last character that started in animated form before appearing in live-action in the coming months and years. Credible rumors point towards appearances of both Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn in the upcoming Ahsoka series and at least one of the Imperial Inquisitors are said to be part of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, which should come out in the spring.
Recently, one actor who provided the voice of one of the characters in Star Wars Rebels expressed his interest in reprising his role in a live-action Star Wars project.
Kevin McKidd, the Scottish actor who is probably best known for his role in the television show Grey’s Anatomy, recently responded to a fan on Twitter who expressed his wish that McKidd's character, Fenn Rau, appear in Season 3 of The Mandalorian;
The Mandalorian Protector, Fenn Rau, appeared in 6 episodes of Rebels, between Seasons 2 and 4. Before the rise of the Empire, he fought alongside the Republic in the Clone Wars. After the end of the war, he remained loyal to the new regime and later became the leader of the Protectors of Concord Dawn, a planet in the Mandalore sector, that had been devastated by a number of wars.
A few years before the Battle of Yavin, Rau was contacted by the Rebel cell led by Hera Syndula. The meeting quickly escalated into a dogfight between Hera's Pheonix Squadron and Rau's Protectors. Rau was eventually defeated and imprisoned, but later joined the rebels after his people were betrayed by the Empire. He aided the rebels in their fight against the Imperial Super Commandos under the leadership of fellow Mandalorian, Gar Saxon.
It was also Fenn who told the story about the ancient Mandalorian Jedi, Tarre Vizsla, who built the Darksaber and what this weapon means for the planet’s history and politics. When Rau was last seen, he had pledged his allegiance to Bo Katan, the then owner of the Darksaber and new leader of Mandalore.
There is no reason that Fenn Rau could not appear in The Mandalorian or in the rumored Bo-Katan standalone series. There have been whispers that one of the main plot lines of the next season will be Katan’s quest to retake her homeworld after the Great Purge and that at least one scene involves a large number of warriors in Mandalorian armor. Fenn could easily be one of them, either still fighting on the side of Katan, or now as her enemy again, as loyalties tend to shift quickly between the various clans and houses of Mandalore.
Getting McKidd to actually play Fenn Rau might be a bit difficult though, as he is still very much engaged in Grey’s Anatomy. But if Rau mostly wears his blue and silver helmet, he could be played by a stand-in or a stunt double and McKidd would only be needed when we see his face.
Even if he doesn’t actually portray Fenn Rau, he could still provide the voice of the Mandalorian, thus still appearing in a live-action Star Wars show and making many fans happy.
