'Star Wars' Has Revealed Shocking Details About The Fett Bloodline
If there's one thing the Star Wars TV shows have been good at, it's their ability to continue the stories of characters who only appear briefly throughout the main film series and even resurrect ones long believed dead, such as the case with Darth Maul in The Clone Wars and Boba Fett in The Mandalorian.
Not only this, but they are also still able to drop an unexpected bombshell or two into the bargain, although it does have to be said, it's not always for the better.
The latest show, The Bad Batch, is now continuing the trend, with last Friday's episode revealing some very interesting details about a prequel characters unknown progeny. For those who don't know, The Bad Batch focuses on a group of genetically altered clones and takes place in the weeks following Revenge of the Sith. Despite their advanced alterations, they are still clones and come from the same genetic template as the rest of their brethren, the bounty hunter Jango Fett.
Introduced in Attack of the Clones, Jango Fett is revealed to be the clone template used to make a clone army on the planet Kamino, but shock horror, he's a bad guy. Small Spoiler Warning here: toward the end of the film, Fett engages in battle with Jedi Master Mace Windu and ends up losing his head, thus ending his story.
However, he does, in a manner of speaking, live on, in the form of the clone army, as well as an unaltered clone of himself. This unaltered clone would grow up to be the infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett, of course following in his father's footsteps. Boba is introduced in The Empire Strikes Back (we are not counting the Holiday Special). Based on the subject matter of the new show, it was only a matter of time before some focus was shifted onto Jango Fett, and last week's episode seems to be the beginning. of this.
A character introduced in the new show is Omega, a young girl who lives on Kamino and helps the Kaminoans. Following Order 66 and Clone Force 99 going on the run, she goes with them, becoming the newest member of the crew. Previous episodes saw the bounty hunter Fennec Shand attempt to capture her, but it was unclear for whom and for what reason. Last week's episode then saw the return of bounty hunter Cad Bane, who was also after the young one, but no one knew why or who was hiring them. It turns out it was the Kaminoans all along, but for seemingly different reasons. So what is so special about Omega?
Well, it turns out, she is also an unaltered clone of Jango Fett just like Boba, effectively making her Jango's "daughter" and Boba's "sister." With Jango dead and Boba gone from Kamino, she is now the last remaining source of genetic material the Kaminoans need to continue making more clones. This revelation has some serious implications for future stories in the galaxy far, far away. For example, pretty much every Star Wars fan has assumed the clones were no longer needed and so were replaced by stormtroopers. The first couple of episodes of the show even hinted at it being down to cost, but what if the reason there were no more clones was because they had nothing to clone? This could, potentially, end up being the canon reason and give a fairly basic, but more believable, explanation than "they just replaced them."
The fact that she is basically Boba's sister could also mean The Bad Batch may not be the last time we see her. As it stands at the moment, the next big show to be released in the Star Wars universe, is The Book of Boba Fett, which is set to follow the titular character after his inclusion in The Mandalorian. Fennec Shand is also set to appear in this new show alongside Boba. May it be revealed that she once tried capture his sister and knew about her all this time? Could Omega actually show up in live-action in some sort of shocking twist? We might not have long to wait.
As The Bad Batch progresses, we will likely learn more about Omega's character and how her story fits into the overall saga. But, unless Omega meets her demise during the events of the animated show, she would be around the same age as Boba, so could definitely show up in his show. Based on last week's episode, it seems Omega has no idea of her lineage. So, with quite a few episodes still left to go, it's likely her coming to terms with it will likely play a part of the narrative and more will be revealed.
As a Star Wars fan, it still never ceases to amaze me the amount of twists and turns still being concocted years after the film's release, and I can't wait to see how this all unfolds. Maybe Omega will follow in her father and brother's footsteps, becoming a bounty hunter. There are many in the universe we've never seen without their helmet, so plenty of potential for her to show up later in the timeline, possibly as a character we already know or at least thought we did. Jury's still out on that one.
