'Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace' Confirmed For May The 4th Theatrical Release
After a Superbowl performance to make any Millenial feel old, Lucasfilm and Disney announced a 25th anniversary Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace screening. The film will be released for a limited time starting Friday, May 3 (clearly a day before Star Wars Day - May the 4th).
In 1999, when the film was first released, it was a commercial success, earning 924 million dollars worldwide. In subsequent years, fans could see a 3D release, which brought in over 102 million dollars and landed the film’s gross protest to just over 1 billion dollars.

Throughout the years, fans initially found the prequel a bit more childish than they were used to in the Star Wars universe; however, Phantom Menace has become a more cherished film with fans. Much of this is due to the accomplishments of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which developed each character with more depth to provide more tragedy to Anakin Skywalker’s unfortunate end.
In anticipation of the new release, fans can pick up Empire’s anniversary edition, which celebrates all the prequels with interviews with Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and Liam Neeson. Fans can also enjoy the release of a new poster for the film by artist Matt Ferguson.
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace returns to theatres on May 3, 2024, for a limited time only.
