'Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse' Has A Fantastic Opening Weekend, Joining 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' In Top Two For 2023
Miles and his Spider-buddies are really getting into the swing of things at the domestic box office. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse had an opening weekend debut of over $120 million. This makes it the highest-ranking film of this weekend, the third-highest-ranking Spider-Man movie of all time, and the second-highest movie of this year, behind only the Super Mario Bros movie, which opened with a $146 million opening weekend. Furthermore, critics have given Spider-Verse a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3, another Marvel property, came in at 4th, making it a fantastic weekend for superhero flicks.
Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse is the sequel to the 2018 movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which had a slow start with only $35 million, but quickly picked up steam finishing with a total of $190 domestically, and $384 million worldwide while also winning an Oscar.
David A. Gross, who runs the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research said of the film, “This is an exceptionally good opening for an animation follow-up sequel. Spider-Verse’ took a well-liked superhero, gave the storytelling an original visual style and voice, and created a unique experience.”
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is currently playing in theatres, and has been praised by fans both on Rotten Tomatoes as well as IMDB.
