Sony State Of Play Reveals 'Ghost Of Yotei,' Sequel To Hit Game 'Ghost Of Tsushima'
During the early months of the pandemic, when everyone was stuck inside, gamers came across a game that quickly became a massive hit, aided by everyone being home, from small studio Sucker Punch. Ghost of Tsushima didn’t win Game of the Year, but it was a strong competitor for the title.
Now, over four years later, at the Sony State of Play the other day, it was revealed there will be a second game, but not quite in the way people might think.
The trailer starts with a view of a mountain and a heading that says Mount Yotei, 1604. Then, a wounded swordsman talks to a figure in a broken kasa and a mask, telling the mysterious figure that other ronin are hunting them. The mysterious figure kills the harbinger off-screen, and we see them on a horse, following a gust of wind. What follows are gorgeous scenes of landscapes, samurai stand-offs, and a snarling wolf that becomes somewhat friendly and runs off into the distance toward the same mountain, a lone yellow-leafed tree at the foot of the mountain. It ends with the title Ghost of Yotei and then the date 2025.

The whole vibe of the trailer is rather like a spaghetti western, presenting the protagonist (who we can see is a woman and, because of the date as well, not Jin Sakai from the first game) in a sort of wandering sword of hire. The man by the fire in the trailer suggests she’s a ronin, which matches the ambiance. It almost gives off a sort of Red Dead Redemption vibe.
There’s no official release date other than 2025, but since the first game was released in the summer, that will likely be a similar window.
