Sonic Central Drops All Kinds Of Information On Everything Sonic

June 23rd marks the 32nd anniversary of our favorite blue speedster, Sonic the Hedgehog, and since 2021, it has been a tradition for SEGA to announce new and exciting things regarding the blue blur on this date through their Nintendo Direct-esque livestream, Sonic Central. This year’s Sonic Central was packed to the brim with announcements, so let’s dive into what you might have missed at Sonic Central 2023.

Firstly, new dates and cities were announced for the upcoming Sonic Symphony World Tour. Previously, it was only confirmed that the tour would be making stops in Los Angeles and London in September of this year. However, more cities were added, and the tour has been extended to March 2024. These cities are Paris, France on September 16th, October 14-15 at the Brasil Game Show in São Paulo, Boston, MA on October 21st, Düsseldorf, Germany on November 17th, San Antonio, TX on December 15th, Atlanta, GA on December 29th, Seattle, WA on January 5th, 2024, San Francisco, CA on January 6th, 2024, Washington DC on January 20th, 2024, Kansas City, MO on January 27th, 2024, Tokyo, Japan on February 11th, 2024, Toronto, Canada on February 17th, 2024, Montreal, Canada on March 24th, 2024, and Portland, OR on March 29th, 2024.

Furthermore, it was mentioned that special musical guests would be making appearances on certain dates, most likely Jun Senoue of Crush 40.

The second update for Sonic Frontiers was also shown off during the livestream. In addition to Sonic and Co sporting birthday garb, the update features several quality-of-life improvements, including New Game+, new action challenges, adjusted physics options, and the spindash. The update was released after the livestream.

The upcoming Sonic Superstars was also shown off extensively. Sonic Superstars is a 2.5D side scroller that is styled after the classic Genesis titles. The game also marks the return of Sonic’s original co-creator, Naoto Oshima, and he and Takashi Iizuka were interviewed for Sonic Central. Also revealed in the livestream was that Sonic Superstars will have a collaboration with the LEGO Sonic line through LEGO-themed skins. After the livestream, a release date for the game was seemingly revealed through various retailers as October 17th.

A collaboration between the upcoming Samba de Amigo Party Central and the blue blur was announced during the stream. The game will feature “Escape from the City” and “Fist Bump” among the over 40 tracks available at launch in a Sonic music DLC pack, along with a Sonic costume and a stage modeled after City Escape from Sonic Adventure 2. Samba de Amigo Party Central will launch on the Nintendo Switch on August 29th and the Meta Quest at a later date.

Other announcements included a pop-up shop collaboration between the Sonic franchise and Hypland, a Sonic Adventure 2-themed statue, a trailer for the upcoming season of Sonic Prime, and a new season of the popular Sonic lore-themed series TailsTube. Overall, there was a whole lot to see in this edition of Sonic Central.
