Disney has been a sponsor of the ESSENCE Festival of Culture for more than a decade. The president and managing director of Disney Parks International, Jill Estorino gave a welcome statement for this year’s announcement, stating, “Through culture-defining storytelling, unforgettable experiences, and more, we are inviting everyone to experience first-hand ‘The Power of Joy’ and the many ways creativity, innovation, and contributions from Black culture are reflected across Disney.” This year, among the company’s features and events, will be a special look at the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka.

The special look at Ahsoka will occur within the Studio Showcase portion, cropping up during a panel or event over the weekend; the exact details are unspecified at the moment. With the release date rapidly approaching, the special look featured has a strong likelihood of being more than a new trailer.

The ESSENCE Festival of Culture was founded by Essence Communications in 1995.  Each year it is a gathering for Black culture, influence, celebration, and music, and entertainment. Taking place in New Orleans, the festival leads into the Fourth of July weekend, with this year taking place from June 29 to July 3.

Ahsoka premiers on August 23, 2023, exclusively on Disney+. Each episode releases weekly after that, giving viewers a reason to look forward to Wednesdays once again. The series follows the titular character as she investigates a growing threat post-Empire that is somehow related to an old foe. There will be eight episodes in total, featuring fan-favorite Star Wars Rebels characters like Hera and Sabine.
