In the 7th season episode of The Simpsons, titled “Homerpalooza,” Homer becomes part of a Freak Show that tours with festival giant Lollapalooza. The episode quickly became a fan favorite thanks to the large amount of band and artist cameos, including Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, and Peter Frampton.

Seeing artists poke fun at themselves and not take themselves seriously, especially when you see them backstage, made for hilarious social commentary throughout the episode. When a roadie for Lolla walks into the Green Room and yells “Who is playing with the London Symphony Orchestra?!” and kicks off a hilarious semi-interrogation of the members of Cypress Hill.

Not truly sure if they ordered the orchestra, Cypress Hill decides to roll with and asks one of the musicians if they know their smash hit, “Insane in the Brain.” The musician replies that they really only know classical, but would be willing to give it a shot. Cut to Cypress Hill vibing to the opening bars of “Insane in the Brain,” and the orchestra close behind with harmonic strings. Later in the episode, we find out that Peter Frampton was the one who ordered the LSO.

Well, it looks like after 27 years, that fantastic collaboration is (almost) coming to fruition. When a Simpsons fan account on Instagram posted a clip of that scene, Cypress Hill commented,

“July in Denver with the Colorado symphony we are playing “Black Sunday” in its entirety to celebrate the 30 yr anniversary. After that we plan to make the gig with the London Symphony a reality. Salute to “The Simpson’s” for birthing the idea.”

Rumors have swirled around before about this epic pairing, but with Cypress Hill playing with an actual orchestra, even if it isn’t the LSO, gives strong hope that the collaboration that we all know will be incredible will actually happen.
