Sigourney Weaver Reveals That She Is In 'The Mandalorian & Grogu'
Sigourney Weaver just received the Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement for her multiple film roles. From playing Ripley in the Aliens franchise to channeling the call of the wild in James Cameron’s Avatar films, there are few sci-fi genres she hasn’t dipped her toes in yet. In an interview with Deadline, Weaver said, “I’m playing a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu. I got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day. I’m filming that before I go to London for The Tempest at the end of the year.” She couldn’t share any more details about the upcoming Star Wars film, but she confirmed that she finished work on the third Avatar movie, and the scripts for the next two are already written.
Although Weaver made her mark in the world of cinema, she started in theater and is returning to her roots with her debut at London’s West End in a performance of The Tempest. She recalled planning to return to the theater immediately after filming Aliens. Weaver explained, “It’s true that Ripley kept living, which I’m happy about. It’s been a great ride; all those different directors and different stories and different evolutions of Ripley. But I was absolutely planning to run back to the theater as fast as I could once it was done!”

Weaver also praised the progress actors and performers have made since her early days in the industry. When asked what the award meant to her, Weaver said, “It’s a recognition of being able to adventure all over the place in the odd way I have done in my career,” alluding to the multiple genres she’s explored in her performances.
She added, “The other reason I’m so grateful for this award is because of what it says about actors, who in many ways are the engines of these stories. The recognition of what actors can bring to the table has changed over the years. Over the course of my career, it has been wonderful to see the influx of women into so many departments, which has brought a lot of oxygen into the business. And certainly, actors are listened to more today; we’re not only considered as commodities, and I think that’s very exciting.” The Mandalorian & Grogu is scheduled to be released on May 22, 2026.
