'Shrek 5' And A Solo Donkey Spinoff Are In The Works at DreamWorks
With recent Dreamworks animated films like Kung Fu Panda 4 hitting theaters, fans wondered if the studio would return to the Shrek franchise. In an interview with Collider, Eddie Murphy, who voices the character Donkey in the Shrek films, revealed that Shrek 5 is already in the works along with a standalone movie focused on Donkey.
Murphy said, “We started doing Shrek 4 or [Shrek] 5 months ago. I did this, I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up. Shrek is coming out and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie.” When asked if he was working on both projects at the same time, Murphy clarified that he has only done work on Shrek 5 which he thinks is coming out in 2025. Work on the Donkey-focused movie would come after work on that film is complete.
