Disney and Marvel are continuing to incorporate more and more characters into their cinematic universe. Though technically still owned by Sony, Spider-Man has been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for several years now. Deadpool will cross over in 2024, as will the X-Men and maybe even Venom.

One character that has made his debut on the big screen in 2018 but is notably absent from the MCU so far is Miles Morales. The young Afro-American man was created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli in 2011 and has appeared as the new Spider-Man in both comics and several television shows. He was introduced to a broader audience in 2018 with the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won an Oscar in 2019.

Shameik Moore voiced Morales in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and will reprise this role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (to be released on June 2, 2023) and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (currently planned for March 2024). The 27-years old actor from Atlanta has now expressed his interest in playing Morales also in live-action:

“I feel like everyone knows I would be a great [live-action] Miles Morales. It just depends on how old they want Miles to be by the time they’re ready to do a live-action movie. That’s the conundrum with whether or not I end up playing him.”

Moore is referencing the fact that in the source material, Morales is described as being several years younger than Peter Parker/Spider-Man. With Marvel not having announced any concrete plans for a live-action Morales in the foreseeable future, time is ticking, and Moore’s chances of playing the character in an MCU feature or a Disney+ series are not getting better as time goes by.

Kevin Feige confirmed in 2017 that the character of Miles Morales does exist in the MCU, and he was referenced both in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: No Way Home. So, it is possible that an older version of Morales played by Moore (maybe from another part of the multiverse) could still join the MCU.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Dave Callaham and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. It will feature the further adventures of Morales and his love interest Gwen Stacy across the multiverse, where the two get in contact with a mysterious new villain and a new group of Spider-People, called Spider-Force. Other cast members are Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, and Jason Schwartzman.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premieres in theaters on June 2, 2023.
