With the major success of the hit animated movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, it shouldn't come as a surprise that a sequel would soon be in development. Even for those who know little about the web-slinging hero (or heroes, as the movie shows us), the film was fun, intriguing, and animated incredibly well.

With the eventual release of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse on the horizon, there are multiple speculations among fans as to what's in store for the multitude of Spideys that will hit the big screen. Due to most animated movies being pinned as nothing more than simple "children's movies", however, many people don't seem to think that an animated film can provide an audience with mature themes and dialogue without degrading some aspect, whether it's in the form of the writing or the animation.

Senior character animator Ere Santos recently provided his own insights in an interview with The Direct, hinting that certain expectations in regards to being a 'kid's movie' might be subverted. Santos states:

"...And also, some of the choices characters were making in the story were like, 'What? Okay, all right. This is a kid's movie? I guess it's not a kid's movie. Okay, cool. Yeah, that's good.' So it's very, very, super exciting to me.

"I think something that one of the producers would say was 'this is completely new. This is completely new. We're not trying to redo anything we've done before.' And when you see the movie, you will see that basically nothing is redone. And I remember when I was interviewing for the job, they were saying, 'Oh, you thought the first one was intense. You've seen nothing, it's gonna be amazing.' And I'm like, 'Sure, whatever you say.'"

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is planned to be released in theaters on June 2, 2023.
