SEGA Files Two New Trademarks For 'Sonic & Friends'
Recently, a trademark was filed for a new Sonic IP called “Sonic & Friends.” The trademark for the name was filed on June 23rd and appears to be for a variety of video game or video game-adjacent categories, including programs for home video game machines, electronic circuits storing programs for home video game machines, magnetic tapes, magnetic disks, optical disks, ROM cartridges, and other recording media. On July 18th, a trademark for the logo was also filed. It appears to use a similar image for the “o” in Sonic as the SD sitting Sonic plush from Great Eastern Entertainment, giving the logo a more childish look.
This has led to some speculation as to whether or not this will be for a brand geared toward a much younger audience. Others have speculated that it might be the name of a new plush line that features the SD Sonic sitting plush. It is still unknown what this trademark will be used for, and SEGA has yet to make an official statement regarding the new brand. The focus right now seems to be on the upcoming 2.5D classic Sonic-inspired platform, Sonic Superstars, which is slated to come out this fall on all major platforms.
