A new trailer for the upcoming Sonic Frontiers has been spotted on the Japanese television network TV Tokyo. The trailer was spotted by Twitter user Tracker and posted on their feed:

This advertisement features shots of Sonic running through one of the Starfall islands accompanied by narration from the game's new villain, Sage (voiced by Megumi Hayashibara, known for voicing Musashi/Jessie in Pokémon and Rei Ayanami in Neon Genesis Evangelion).

It also features the game's vocal theme, which may or may not be by Crush 40. Though in Japanese, various users were able to translate what the new character is saying:

The dialogue suggests a bit of an existential tone for the title, as some have picked up on. This same trailer was also shown before Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in theaters in Japan. There is no word on if this is the same trailer that will be shown off during Gamescom next week, but around the same time as this advertisement was discovered, the Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter posted this cryptic tweet:

What this is referring to is unclear. The image features Sonic in a desert area going up against some sort of boss, indicating that this may represent a currently unknown part of the game. Nonetheless, Mike Pollock, the voice of Dr. Eggman, had this to say as a snappy retort:

Sonic Frontiers is slated for a Winter 2022 release, and with Gamescom right around the corner, it appears more news may be incoming.
