Ever since the disappointing performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story and the fallout from the sequel trilogy, Disney and Lucasfilm have turned their attention away from big screen content for the time being and toward creating stories for the small screen instead, and seem to have been extremely successful in doing so. Fans loved getting closure with the final season of The Clone Wars, and the first two seasons of The Mandalorian were an absolute smash. With even more shows planned in the future, it seems like this is where the focus is going to stay for the time being.

The first season of The Mandalorian gave us something completely different to what we had seen previously. It focused on a time not heavily explored before and focused on new characters separate from the Skywalker Saga. Season 2 then ramped it up even more by continuing the story, but bringing established characters into it as well. Fans went nuts when it was announced that Ahsoka Tano would be making her live-action debut. Then when Boba Fett turned up, we knew we were in for something special. However, the cherry on top came in the form of a very surprise cameo at the end of the second season. If you still haven't seen it yet, please be warned, there are some SPOILERS ahead.

Just when it seemed like our heroes were pretty much doomed, an X-wing was spotted flying by outside and, with the ignition of a green blade, a Jedi began taking out Dark Troopers like they were nothing. When I was watching the show for the first time, I have to admit I did have an idea as to who it might be, but I still wasn't prepared for the moment the hood was lowered and it was revealed to be none other than a de-aged Mark Hamill back in the famous role of Luke Skywalker. Sure, the CGI was a bit lacking, but many fans rejoiced at this inclusion.

At the time, many were unsure if it was indeed Mark Hamill in the role or if it was just CGI similar to what was used for Peter Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One. However, Hamill himself came out and confirmed it was indeed him. This caused many fans to believe he may appear again in his own show or indeed within the next season of The Mandalorian. For now, this is yet unknown. However, a new episode in Disney+ series Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is giving us a behind the scenes look at the cameo to tide us over.

In the trailer for the upcoming episode, we see Hamill once again don his outfit from Return of the Jedi and act the scene out right there. We obviously know Hamill appears as Luke in the sequel trilogy, but this is a changed version of the character. The events of The Mandalorian take place, roughly, around five years after Return of the Jedi, and it's very possible we could see more of Luke as he trains young Grogu and attempts to rebuild his own Jedi Order before the events of the sequel trilogy. Due to the time jump between the original and sequel trilogies, there's plenty of ground to cover, and it would be nice to see just what happened to Luke exactly to lead him to vanishing before being found by Rey.

The character's future is purely speculation at the moment, but with him being such a prominent character, it's likely he will show up again in one form or other. As for right now, though, you can check out the trailer for new Disney Gallery episode below:
