The Boys’ season 4 might be setting up a family reunion as actress Rosemarie DeWitt has recently been cast to play the long-absent mother of Jack Quaid’s Hughie Campbell.

With British actor Simon Pegg reprising his role as Hughie’s dad, the R-rated Amazon series seemingly intends to further explore the character of Hughie and unveil the mystery behind his mom’s sudden absence. In the final episode of season 2, Hughie mentions how it all happens, "It was like some silent alarm went off, and she was like, 'F--- them, time to go!'"

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, in 2020, Quaid spoke about the impact the absence of Hughie’s mother had on the latter. "He has the need to defend and protect and nurture those around him that he really cares about," he said. "The reason why he gloms onto people is because his mom left him. He never wants to do that to anyone ever again, and it comes out in interesting ways, ways that could be considered a little bit codependent, a little destructive in a way. But I think he's starting to pull himself out of that rut at the end of the season."

DeWitt’s character will be joining a roster of brand new characters, including new supes Sister Sage and Firecracker played by Susan Heyward and Valorie Curry. Former Supernatural actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan is also joining the cast alongside Rob Benedict, and Elliot Knight, although their roles are still kept under wraps.

As of now, there is no release date for season 4 of The Boys. So in the meantime, take a look at the teaser trailer of its spinoff, Gen V, which is set to release in 2023.
