Look up in the sky it’s a bird, it’s a plane it’s… SUPERGIRL???????

Ever since the DCEU was born over at DC Films and Warner Bros., there has been constant drama with either the production or the execution or even the casting of some of their films (which is always an interesting read for viewers). But recently, with the much delayed and anticipated The Flash film that is expected to adapt Flashpoint, a surprising addition to the project involves the Girl of Steel.

According to Deadline, director Andy Muschietti watched over 425 actresses and, along with DC Films President/Executive Producer Walter Hamada and the rest of the producers, was blown away by newcomer Sasha Calle’s toughness and vulnerability when she was auditioning. Muschietti said:

“I saw more than four hundred auditions. The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role."

Apparently, none of the actresses were not informed of what role they were reading for until the end of the process. Sasha did a chemistry read with Ezra Miller (Barry Allen/The Flash), and all auditions and reads were done via Zoom due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Muschietti telling Calle the great news via Zoom and her reaction to it was a great feel-good moment over on social media.

DC Comics fans probably lost their collective minds over this news, hopefully in excitement, especially as it turns out that the iconic Kryptonian will make her way onto the big screen shortly via The Flash film.

Calle’s discovery is being compared to what Zack Snyder did in casting then fresh-face Gal Gadot, previously from three Fast & Furious films, into the role of Wonder Woman, which skyrocketed her into being a worldwide megastar with appearances in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, and Justice League.

Audiences who are into daytime soap operas may know that Calle currently plays the role of Lola Rosales on the long-running CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. She was nominated last year in the Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama Series category at the Daytime Emmys and recently starred in the YouTube miniseries Socially Awkward.

There are questions surrounding Superman, particularly regarding Henry Cavill's portrayal. Will he appear in other characters' films in the DCEU, or will an actual standalone sequel to Man of Steel finally happen due to fan demand? Cavill has expressed that he is interested in returning to the role. The ball is in WB’s court on this one.

The Flash will start filming late spring, and as of right now, with Miller and Calle onboard, Ben Affleck will reprise the role of the DCEU Bruce Wayne/Batman, along with Billy Crudup as Dr. Henry Allen and the legendary Michael Keaton returning to the role of the 1989 Bruce Wayne/Batman.
