SAG-AFTRA Proposes Counter Offer To The Latest Round Of Negotiations; Hopes Deal Will Be Reached By November

SAG-AFTRA postponed Wednesday’s talks with the AMPTP to take more time to consider the studios’ offer and their counter. According to a post by Discussing Film on X, the studios warned that some TV shows would have to be canceled if the strike continues. Discussing Film wrote, “The strike will only continue if studios continue to refuse to give actors fair pay & working conditions.”
While the AMPTP’s alleged goal was to illustrate the realities of the strike. Some members of SAG-AFTRA took the cancellation notice as a threat. According to one industry source, “If a deal isn’t reached in the near future, it will mean a complete wipeout of the new 2024 TV season and all the first- and second-quarter movies moving to the second half of the year.”

Talks resumed on Thursday, October 26. A SAG-AFTRA post on X notified the guild, “Our committee spent today reviewing the latest AMPTP counter offer. We will be meeting across the table with the CEOs tomorrow.”
Both sides want to reach a deal, but it seems the studios and the guild have different notions of what a fair deal requires. Already, the California economy has seen a loss of $65 billion and 45,000 industry jobs as a result of both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike. One member of the actor’s guild said, “We know what the stakes are. We all do.” Hopefully, the realization of those stakes by everyone involved leads to a fair deal for both the actors and the studios.
