The Screen Actor’s Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) went on strike in mid-July following a failure to reach a satisfactory contract renegotiation. The strike has persevered for well over 70 days at this point, and negotiation talks are coming back to the table. The TV/Theatrical/Streaming Negotiating Committee released some exciting news via SAG-AFTRA’s X account.

The Negotiation Committee gave brief details regarding the details for what is coming, explaining (via X), “SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP will meet for bargaining on Monday, Oct. 2. Several executives from AMPTP member companies will be in attendance. As negotiations proceed, we will report any substantiative updates directly to you.” A new round of talks is coming, reinforcing the hope for the future of the contract negotiations.

The Negotiation Committee shifted focus to those actively on the picket line, expressing appreciation, “We appreciate the incredible displays of solidarity and support from all of you over the last 76 days of this strike.” The strike isn’t over yet, an important fact to keep in mind. They continued, “We urge you to continue coming out to the picket lines in strength and big numbers every day!”  In a short, inspiring slogan, they finished with, “One Day Longer. One Day Stronger.” This news follows the tentative deal leading to the conclusion of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike. The WGA went on strike at the beginning of May, holding the picket line for over 140 days until this deal came to be. The deal includes protections regarding the use of AI, a revised formula for residuals, and the protection of writers’ rooms, among several other key gains. A full membership vote is occurring in the coming week for the final ratification.
